Anacortes Music Project

We are excited to present the AMP Youth Choir! Our first 10 week session begins Monday October 5th from 6:00-7:30pm at The Globe (formerly Buxton’s) and is open to youth ages 8-13. Students will gain experience in reading music, ear training, and group singing. They will explore different styles of music and participate in a final concert for family, friends & the community on Monday December 7th. Director Sophia Christensen Price has directed & accompanied a variety of choirs, vocal directed multiple musical theatre productions, and taught private voice and piano throughout the Valley for the last 25 years. She looks forward to working with your student!

Kathy Moore, Tim Mechling, Ben Starner, and a special guest come together for an intimate night of Elliott Smith’s music. Stripped down, reimagined, and played the way it deserves to be heard: close up and loud enough to feel.

Settle in with a drink, good food, and some of Smith’s most haunting and beautiful songs.

Dad’s Diner will be serving up a delicious menu of small bites including pickle-brined chicken wings, deviled eggs, bacon-wrapped jalapeños, and jamón burré, along with a specialty cocktail or mocktail created just for the evening.

This session of AMP’s Community Choir is full. Please follow us on social media subscribe to our email list or pick up a copy of Show Chime and look for Spring Choir, starting in late February!

Our newest session of AMP’s Community Choir, led by our amazing director, Kathy Moore starts September 29th! Kathy is arranging some unique versions of holiday favorites for us to learn beautiful and rich harmonies. The final performance will be at AMP’s Rockin’ Yule Bizarre on December 19th.

Teaches: Cello, String Ensembles

Barb Hunter is a cellist and cello teacher with over 40 years of playing experience in both classical and rock/folk/pop settings. She began her cello studies in Cincinnati, Ohio with Cincinnati Symphony Assistant Principal cellist Geraldine Sutyak, participating in the Cincinnati Youth Symphony and Interlochen Arts Camp’s World Youth Symphony in her high school years. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied with baroque specialist Brent Wissick and served as Principal Cellist in the University Orchestra and New Music Ensemble, then went on to the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where she studied with LaSalle Quartet cellist Lee Fiser.

After college she enjoyed playing the electric cello in rock bands and had the opportunity to play concerts across the United States and Europe, in a wide range of venues, from small bars to Madison Square Garden. After embarking on a career as a computer programmer, she moved to Seattle and continued to play in rock bands while also returning to classical music, joining the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra and eventually serving as the Principal Cellist from 2015-2018.

She resides in Sedro-Woolley and is currently a member of the Skagit Symphony and the Cincinnatus Duo, a collaboration with Skagit Symphony’s Music Director, violinist Michael Wheatley.

Barb teaches private cello lessons, leads the Skagit Youth String Ensembles, and directs the AMP Strings Camp.
