At AMP Youth Strings Camp, kids ages 8-13 will have the opportunity to learn violin, viola, or cello in a fun, fast-paced environment. Beginners with no prior musical training are welcome to participate in the Overture Track, and those with prior playing experience on their instruments can participate in the Intermediate Track. Instructors from the Skagit Symphony will teach the basics: how to hold the instrument and bow, how to pluck the strings, form notes with the left hand, and bow the strings. We will also learn how to read music, follow a conductor, and play in an ensemble. Each 3-hour day at camp will involve group practice of note reading and rhythms, instrument sectionals with hands-on instruction, performances by guest artists, games, and rehearsals. Intermediate string players will receive additional skill-building opportunities in separate sessions during each day at camp. At the end of the week we will perform a concert. Campers will make new friends, learn new things, and hopefully get off to a great start on a lifetime of opportunity as a string player.

Bad Posture Club is a queer folk duo made up of Maren Day and Morgan Kavanagh. Originally from Northwestern Washington, they’ve toured nationally, as well as spent formative years in the Midwest music scene. Together they craft intricate and experimental harmonies with their two voices, banjo, guitar, and a 100 year old pump organ. Bad Posture Club invites the listener to hear the power in quiet, intimate music, and offers warmth and reflection through song. They are currently based in Anacortes, WA. Listen HERE
Simon Cropp is a flatpick guitarist and folk songwriter from Decorah, Iowa. His performance style is equal parts dive bar bravado and fireside introspection. His writing channels classic country themes of love, heartbreak, and landscape – winking at cliche without bending to it – to deliver a sound that is as comfortable on a front porch as it is on a festival stage.
