At AMP Overture Strings Camp, kids ages 8-12 will have the opportunity to be introduced to violin, viola, or cello in a fun, fast-paced environment. Instructors from the Skagit Symphony will teach the basics: how to hold the instrument and bow, how to pluck the strings, form notes with the left hand, and bow the strings. We will also learn how to read music, follow a conductor, and play in an ensemble. Each 3-hour day at camp will involve group practice of note reading and rhythms, instrument sectionals with hands-on instruction, performances by guest artists, games, and rehearsals. At the end of the week we will perform a concert. Campers will make new friends, learn new things, and hopefully get off to a great start on a lifetime of opportunity as a string player.
